Two full sightseeing days provide the best short-stay balance: enough time for the iconic capital district and enough room to see that Ottawa is more than Parliament Hill.
Day one: the national-capital core
Combine Parliament, the Ottawa Locks, Major’s Hill Park, ByWard Market and one major museum or gallery. Keep the evening flexible for a performance, seasonal event or relaxed neighbourhood meal.
Day two: canal, museum and neighbourhood
Begin with a second museum or a canal-side walk. Continue toward the Glebe and Lansdowne, or choose Hintonburg and Wellington West for local streets and independent businesses. In poor weather, replace outdoor time with a second museum or indoor attraction.
Alternative second day: Ottawa–Gatineau
Cross the Ottawa River for the Canadian Museum of History, river views and central Gatineau. This works best when you check the return route and do not add Gatineau Park on the same short day unless transportation is already arranged.
