Ottawa’s central core is walkable for many visitors, but the full visitor region is not. Museums, parks, airport connections and Gatineau require deliberate transport choices.
Walking
Parliament, the Ottawa Locks, Major’s Hill Park, ByWard Market and the National Gallery form a practical central cluster. Distances increase quickly beyond it.
OC Transpo and O-Train
Ottawa’s buses and rail cover the Ontario side. Tap payment, Presto and pass options are available, with rules and fares subject to change.
Crossing to Gatineau
STO operates on the Quebec side. Some routes cross the river, but payment and fare integration should be confirmed for the specific trip.
Driving and parking
A car helps with rural and park trips but can be inconvenient downtown. Check event closures and parking time limits.
